July 3rd, 2008 @ 11:14

Other gamers are beginning to report the same.

We’re just checking with Sony about this now.

So does that include the trophy support or is that in a different update? I suppose perhaps you get the team expansion pack that includes the trophy stuff and then unlock the multiplayer stuff from the store? So many questions…. so little time….

  4. I’ve just mailed them now and asked if it’s 2.40-related. I assume it must be.

Yeah, likely that they didn’t want their update online because it relies on parts of the 2.4 update (which obviously isn’t available right now).

  6. LOL! Can anyone say “Clusterfuck!”

I keep hearing the Benny Hill chase theme tune in my head today for some reason :)

  7. Sony gets the platinum trophy for cock ups.

  8. All I see on other forums is, “it’s free, why moan?” and some such. Weird. This whole thing is a complete disaster.

  9. And you get what you pay for too.

    “Complete. Disaster.

    Total.”

    Proportion. Out Of. Blown.

When things like this happen to MS it’s just a minor hiccup.
With Sony “Oh no, they’re fucked. They lied to us. They ran over my dog”.

  11. …and there we have it.

  12. I hate Microsoft just as much as I hate Sony. But not quite as much as I hate Nintendo.

    “…and there we have it.”

    And there we have what?

I don’t know I think he’s got a point. There is a slight bias against Sony online amongst the ‘hardcore’. For whatever reason that is.

Although to be fair to morriss he is consistently negative towards almost everything :)

I don’t hate any of them. Seems a little odd to hate a company …unless it’s Apple.

  16. See? That’s the spirit!

  17. You’ve (plural) got it all wrong. The “hardcore” has the Sony bias and continually pounce and shout “fanboy” at any criticism of it. They make so much noise about absolutely everything they actually make the problem bigger than it is and lead people to believe there’s a conspiracy.

It’s easy, if there was nothing negative to report about Sony, no-one would report it. If you think news people actually ignore negative 360 stories on favour of PS3 one’s then you’re quite mad.

I don’t really like or dislike any of them. Nintendo annoy me for consistently being the most evil of the three gaming companies… yet they get treated like saints. :)

Interesting that you see it that way morriss. I tend to find a PC/360 biased crowd on these forums who tend to be quite caught up in there own little 360/PC gaming world. Perhaps its just the vocal minority problem. Perhaps itsmy own bias - everyone has one.

In reality, its actually the best time to be able to just enjoy games with all the companies involved doing reasonably well (some better than others) and providing so much diversity.

Of course there’s always something to moan about somewhere.

  20. I don’t see much diversity tbh. That’s the whole problem.

  21. There’s precious little diversity between the 360 and the PS3. That’s probably my biggest gripe of the entire generation, after the whole Nintendo wailing-and-gnashing-of-teeth thing.

Well they will insist on copying each other :)

Nintendo have definitely gone off and done there own thing there is no denying that. Absolutely brilliant considering the reaction when both the DS and the Wii were first released.

You are right though, the differences between the PS3 and the 360 are minor but I do think that the 360 targets a more traditional hardcore audience whilst the PS3 provides (or tries to provide) a little bit more of a balanced approach with titles to please a broader cross section of the market. Its actually a pretty decent media centre out of the box as well.

In comparison to days of yore though, its brilliant. Blind optimism, theres not enough of it if you ask me.

  23. So, let me get this right.

    I have a PS3. I have SuperStardust.

I can still play on them.

I just can’t OPTIONALLY choose to get a (free?) upgrade until it returns to the Sony servers?

Or has something I already paid for been taken away from me?

The attitude in here suggests that Sony ninjas have sneaked in and deleted files off my PS3 hard disk.

If they’re making a big issue out of something that’s either A) free or B) something they don’t use anyway or C) both then I really don’t understand what the big deal is.

Sounds like moaning about fuel prices going up when you don’t even own a car.

P.s If morriss you could change your ID to Statler and blerk you could be Waldorf, that’d be great :) Shame you can’t have piccies on this really isn’t it.

  25. @ morriss
Quote: “I don’t see much diversity tbh. That’s the whole problem.”

    100% agreed! :)

  26. I love the “what’s the problem?” crowd. They make the internet worth the subscription.

  27. I don’t see the point in making an alarmist news story about something that, actually, isn’t a problem to 99.9% of users. For example, is anyone in this comments section actually affected by this (currently unconfirmed) issue?

Don’t you feel the same way when dumb media makes a huge song and dance about horrific videogames and they blow everything out of proportion because it makes a far more saleable story then simply report the news in context?

Awesome double standards. I’m sure you approve of sensationalism when it suits you (as evidenced above) but not when it doesn’t (VG247 likes to call out the Daily Mail when it suits). Let’s have a little more journalistic consistency please.

Oh, and, again - the source is from a forum post?????

    /facepalm

  28. Just stop reading and go somewhere else, innit. Easy peasy.

  29. Shatner - See top story.

  30. Presumably we’ll get the same reaction when it happens to the 360 (again) with the fall update?

  31. I love the “don’t like what I say? go somewhere else” writers. They make the internet worth the subscription.

It’s not what you say morriss, it’s the deliberatley distorted way you (and others here) choose to say it.
The media seem to enjoy pointing the finger without ever being held accountable for what they say. They don’t seem to like it quite so much when someone points the finger back at them.

morriss, I think it was you who said to me if you dish it out to others then you should be prepared to have it dished out to you.

If you play a bad game you expect to exercise your right to comment about it. If I read sloppy journalism then I expect to exercise my right to say so.

Don’t be such a bad sport morriss.

  32. The only double standards I see here are those of someone who successfully applied the patches and downloaded the extra content for the 2.40 upgrade yesterday, and didn’t end up with a sizeable expensive piece of technological junk being couriered back to Sony this morning for a ripe kicking.

Balance things out a little, toupee boy. Even as a PS3 owner who has more things to rant about with regards to the machine than fucked patches, you can’t call it anything less than a disaster.

If MS did fuck up like this (and they do, nary a dashboard update passes without similar stuff happening) then it’d be covered and discussed in the same way.

  33. I don’t think the story is that it’s a ‘problem’ for most people (although the ones that are affected by the 2.40 issue would most likely disagree). The story is that this is hugely embarassing for Sony - 2.40 was supposed to be the big one, the one that did all the stuff they’d been promising for ages, the stuff that everyone had been screaming for for months.

To cock it all up at the last minute is arse-clenchingly terrible.

  34. Shatner, I’m not being funny, but have you ever been on the wrong end of a media battering or something? You do sound very bitter.

  35. The initial pull of the firmware fine, cock up of big proportions. The pull of the patch for a game which relies on the firmware which was pulled = obvious consequence. Really not sure on why this in itself is “Complete Disaster” and worthy of more than a mention.

  36. Well, it was the ‘whole incident’ I was commenting on as a complete disaster. Not the pulling of this single update. Each little thing that piles up on the ‘oh shit’ pile makes the cock-up slightly worse, does it not?

  37. No not really, the initial cock-up kind of covers it and makes the rest obvious for me. A bit like a race driver crashing out. Yes that is a cock-up but you don’t then get all surprised by the fact he gets no points for the race, that’s just obvious.

If they had left the patch there and people without 2.4 were able to grab it and therefore cock up their game, that would have been a further cock up.

  38. Well, there is that, I guess.

If we say ‘cock’ enough times, does it make it into that big list of words on the cock right? Cock?

To my knowledge its not that big a problem.

Its better to remove the patch and kill the problem than risk anymore people having broken PS3s.

It makes sense. What part of this was a disaster? The part where an un-noticed peiece of code caused a problem? Like every launch PC game ever you mean? Or the part where Sony removed the problem patch in order to cut down possible breakages?

Was that the disaster? Or was it LOL XBOX BREAKS NOW SO DOES PS3 LETS WRITE NEWS AND KEEP IT UPDATED SO NO ONE FORGETS EVER AND CONTINUE TO WRITE AND SIGH AND SAY COCK UP ETC OH SONY DISASTER ISNT IT.
