Ever wondered what Hideo Kojima’s top five most influential videogames of all time are? Gamerush has reported the list, apparently taken from an interview in the Yomiuri Shimbun.

  • Super Mario Bros. series

  • Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken
  • Xevious
  • Outer World (known as Out of this World in U.S.)
  • Metal Gear Solid

So there you have it.

  1. The Japanese luuuuuuurve Another World. Toyama, Suda, Ueda and Kojima are all fans - all of them were influenced by it in some way.

  2. Another World was a brilliant game. I still remember wandering into the local game shop and seeing it running for the first time on their Amiga without knowing what it was. Jaw-dropping at the time, there was a crowd of people around it just watching.

I really like Xevious too. But I draw the line at Super Mario Bros.

Isn’t it bad form to list one of your own games in your influences? That aside, much respect for the Another World inclusion. :D

Super Mario Bros. series - that is not a game.

    FAIL!

  5. So Outer World is Another World. Man.. that game made me misty in the eyes at the end credits. Good old days

  6. Is the list 1-5 or 5-1 up there? Either could make sense, arguably…

Except for the inclusion of Super Smash Bros. No, thank you.
