I wish we just had top-line data, as Blerk says. Figures mean news.

I remember them being less than happy when someone leaked a week's hardware figures last Easter.

I hope they still publish the Elspa sales awards each month though as you can at least get some idea of LTD's for UK software from them.

The report's very detailed. MCV's the only publication with a contract to be able to publish the figures. Intent's not allowed to put them online, only in the mag. Put them on a website and Chart-Track gets very medieval very quickly.

Quite why they can't just release some basic weekly figures for the top ten and a monthly indication of hardware sales, I have no idea. I'm sure the reports they sell must contain far, far more information than that and would still continue to sell.

It's how the entire thing's funded, basically. It is a shame, though, considering Japanese and American data catches so much attention.

“Anybody who isn’t a member of ELSPA does have to pay to access the data. It’s actually the most cost effective and best way of providing this kind of research”

Sure. It always has seemed very strange to me that the games industry is the only entertainment industry where sales figures are so closely guarded. Most other entertainment industries seem proud to annouce their exact sales figures immediately.
