10v10 online play confirmed for FIFA 09
July 10th, 2008 @ 11:41

According to this GamesRadar article, 10v10 play is definitely going to feature in FIFA 09. No goalies, basically.
David Rutter, line producer on the PS3 and 360 version said, “We’ve managed to get 10v10 this year online through strength of will and technological nous. [But] we want to make sure the control system for controlling goalkeepers is compelling enough before putting it in, because no game has done it particularly well, if it’s even been in there.
“So we want to make sure it’s good enough before putting it in because the last thing you want to do is say “tada - 11 v 11″… and the goal keepers are rubbish.”

10 v 10 seems a little bit silly.

Great, so now we’ll just have 20 people all going for the ball at once.

Exactly what I was thinking, it’ll be like when little kids play footie in the playground, everyone chases after the ball.

That’s going to be shockingly boring… but good for the football nerds I suppose.

It’s football people.
If all 10 people chase after the ball like a bunch of school kids, they’re going to lose like they would in any normal football match.
All the other team needs to do is keep its shape and it’s game over.
People who play this game and know about football know something as simple as this.

I gather you’ve never played a game that’s made up of random people from the internet playing it then?
The chances of many teams comprising of 10 people who will work like a proper team in a game of footie over the internet are very, very remote.

Whizzo is right. Playing the current 4v4 “Be a Pro” mode is bad enough but at least the majority of the team are AI controlled so maintain their shape reasonable well.

I play with a clan, and usually meet many other clans all the time, so I don’t see why the same shouldn’t happen here.
