No 360 price cut or 60Gb machine in the UK, says Microsoft

July 14th, 2008 @ 12:03

Spong’s reporting that Microsoft’s confirmed that announced changes to 360 strategy in the US won’t make it to the UK.

“The 60GB Xbox 360 and the 20GB clearance sale are for the US only,” said a rep. “We have not announced any changes in Xbox 360 offerings or pricing in Europe.”

Hardly shocking, but there we are.

  1. “We have not announced any changes”

We know that, you buffoons! That’s not what we were asking! :-D

  2. I hate these stories. They’re so pointless.

I hate these stories too, but I do wish these companies would wake up to the fact that console gaming is now a global market and the internet means there will always be no end of speculation if something is announced for one region about when (or if) it’ll make it to the others.

In fact, the whole region-specific thing really should be retired now - after the amount of complaining about Sony’s treatment of the Euro market (no 80GB, late Dualshock 3 + Sixaxis dumping), MS had a great opportunity to win some PR points. Looks like they gave that up.

All this announcement of there being no announcement achieves is to make people want to wait and see…

Now that I’m all geared up to finally give in and buy a PS3, I almost hope Sony *don’t* announce anything new and exciting at E3 because then I’ll be torn between waiting a little longer for that to come to Euro shores or just getting it and saying to hell with it…

  4. All of Microsoft’s previous kit has made it to Europe in timely fashion, so I’ve no doubt this will as well. Maybe they’ll save that announcement for Leipzig, though.
