Kojima on MGS4 dev: Sony gave us a lot of advantage with pre-release PS3 hardware
July 21st, 2008 @ 16:16

Speaking to the BBC, Hideo Kojima has spoken about how Metal Gear 4’s life started as a consultation with Sony on the birth of PlayStation 3 itself.
“We started to work on Metal Gear Solid 4 four years ago, after finishing work on Metal Gear Solid 3,” he said. “At that time we really didn’t know what the PS3 was going to be like, so the first two years was all about experimenting, developing and trial and error.
“In the last two years, we’ve know what the PS3 is capable of, the specifications of it and how we can utilise it… PS3 is a monster machine. That’s why it took so much time to create Metal Gear Solid 4.
“Since we’re developing only for the Sony format, Sony has given us a lot of advantage before the actual release of the hardware. So we had many meetings with them to discuss the specifications. We analysed this black box before it was released, and we experimented with it and we gave Sony a lot of feedback, like, ‘Can we do this and can we do that.’”

Interesting stuff. Lends a bit more credence to Sony’s claims that MGS4 was only possible on the PS3.

Changed their tune a lot since they last talked about the hardware and Sony’s promises. I guess a few million sales will do that for you. \o/

Or a slapped wrist from Sony.

This is probably the main reason why MGS4 will never be on 360.
Sony gave Hideo so much advanced insights to the PS3 hardware in return for having this game exclusively.
IMHO MGS4 is still the best looking console-game out there! Way better than Gears of War 2 or Resistance 2 and to some degree even better than Killzone 2.

Maybe they should consider sharing those insights with Epic so that ports of games using UE3 ran a bit better.

Quiiick, are you on crack? MSG4 is good looking but not in GOW2’s league. Please… Also there is no tecnical issues that would prevent MSG4 from looking the part on 360.Believe me if the can do Final Fantasy, they can host Snake with no problems.

They might have consulted them a bitt more on the disc format used and the drive speed.
Installing during gameplay is riddiculouse, gets even worse when you share the PS3 with another person who is at a different Act then you. Yes, that’s right, you have to instal the game every single time you play.
