GamesRadar’s published an article listing 365 shareware PC games. This has to be worth a look, simply as it lists a huge amount of free stuff. Go see.

Loads of great stuff in there, and I haven’t even played a fraction of them.
I dunno if it’s on that list, but I’ve been playing this one this morning already. It’s really quite good.
