“Fresh” Banjo stuff behind closed doors at Leipzig, new screens released
August 8th, 2008 @ 11:29

Rare’s George Kelion’s confirmed that “fresh” Banjo stuff will be shown behind closed doors at Games Convention in this NeoGAF post.
“The build we demo’d to the press at E3 will be playable on the show floor by the public at Leipzig GC,” he said.
“The press will have something extra specially fresh shown to them behind closed doors, which I’m hoping they’ll then report on. I don’t want to spoil their surprise, so you’ll have to wait for the media to get back to you on what we show them.”
There are new shots on NeoGAF as well. Looking lovely as ever. There’s an icy bit with an igloo there, so we’re happy. Take a look.
Update: Those shots are old, sorry. Still, they’re pretty, eh?

Given what they did with the Kameo engine back in 2005 I’m really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Looks lovely.

Just updated the story. Screens are old, sorry.

But yeah, I can’t wait for this.

If we don’t get a copy of this soon I’ll scream and scream and scream ’til I’m sick.
…and Viva Pinata 2.

I am eager to see what the reviewers make of this, becuase there seem to be people excited.
In my eyes, the vehicle creation is a bit tacked on, and there are multiple confusing things to collect, and place in multiple confusing areas to open up multiple other areas. It’s all a bit convoluted when I watch the IGN demonstration.
Artistically though this game is VERY pretty, and graphically too. And I like how it’s like a GTA in a more kiddy friendly world. I’ve always loved that element in games. Sly Cooper did it last generation.

No_PUD: The vehicle creation isn’t tacked on, the whole game relies on it. \o/

Behind closed doors doesnt sound too confident…
Also, I do hope the vehicle controls have been improved and there are more platform elements.
The last E3 1up pod cast said that the vehicles had terrible handling and the platform elements are few and far between :(.
Where art thou Nintendo?

In the Gamersyde interview a guy from rare acually said it’s essentially tacked on, as just another little thign to do.
But I believe Newbie, that contrary to what you’ve said, behind close doors sounds totally confident.
It sounds like they want to ournalists to create a bit of hype, which is onyl possible when you are confident of what you have to show.
August 8th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Really? Only showing it to a select few tells me that the game isnt totally playable and they don’t want people to just ‘pick up and play’.
Still, I still pray its good!
Only time will tell….

No it porbably will mean there’s restrictions but it’s a WIP.
The fact they are shwoing it to journalists like this says to me they are extremely confident, and want some details to be revealed, virally as it were.

Yeah, if you read the comments on the whole from when they first showed it they were seriously upbeat. The only concern being vehicles but most came around when they actually got a chance to use it.
Closed doors just means secret stuff that they don’t want to reveal yet. See Heavy Rain, BBC PS3 game etc.

Behind Closed doors = non-disclosure agreement. Could they finally show the 360 version of the Wii-mote?
August 8th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
It’s been confirmed by Rare multiple times that Banjo will have no waggle.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Psychotext, I’m not entirely sold on that… Way too many publications and insiders have singled out Rare as the center of a Wii-mote like project. Just like the Mii’s that eventually turned out to be all too real.
They could build support for the device and keep it hush-hush, just like they could release an update to enable said support. Time will tell, but I have the feeling that Rare is deeply involved with “project newton”.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Wiimote project, yes. But not in Banjo. This isn’t a flimsy PR “no comment” or “there are no plans” it’s been a flat out “NO” repeatedly.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
It’s been denied though. I don’t think either Sony or Microsoft will release their own. I read somewhat MotionPlus is not for Nintendo alone….
But anyway, Mortiferus, clearly this isn’t an NDA situation.
I would be quick to point out the guy said about waht the press will see: “which I’m hoping they’ll then report on”.
No NDA there, just hyping up the press, becuase then the audience follows.
Anyway, I am sceptical personally, but I think they sound confident, it’s Banjo and Kazooie, they can’t go too far wrong.

Psychotext, point taken. But, would it not be a shame IF they fail to co-develop newton support in a game as lovely as this? Seriously, I can’t see them not co-developing the newton(in the form of API’s and design guidelines) and not put it to the test by building support for it in Banjo.
Like I said, time will tell, and maybe it wont ship with it initially, but instead have those private frameworks enabled via software update.

No_PUDding, I missed that “which I’m hoping they’ll then report on” part. I concur with your non-nda assessment.
