Rein confirms Gears 2 as Leipzig no-show
August 12th, 2008 @ 07:44

Epic’s Mark Rein’s confirmed that Gears of War 2 won’t be shown by Microsoft at Games Convention next week.
“Microsoft doesn’t show Gears 2 at Leipzig because they don’t sell the game in Germany,” Rein told VG247 this morning.
Gears of War isn’t sold in Germany because of restrictions on violence in games in the country.
The action sequel was the Microsoft keynote headliner at E3. Shame it won’t be at GC: we wanted to play it.

Er… you sell the game in the rest of Europe, Microsoft! Whatever happened to ‘improved local focus’?
They can be a bit odd, the Germans. They’re like a slightly less consistent Australia.

That’s just the games rating people, by the way. Some of my best friends are Germans.

Sony runs up against this too. They’re not allowed to show 18 games in the keynotes or on the showfloor period. Don’t expect to see a Resistance 2 keynote full of headshots, put it that way.

Surely then it would be better to hold this show outside of Germany?

A lot of bigwigs have said that in private. It’s all a bit academic, really. It’s in Germany. Britain was too busy fucking shows up every year at the time and GC got huge. I like it. It’s great to see thousands of kiddies with their parents not being faced by hordes of exploding mutants

They should stick it in France, or possibly Italy - I’d actually go if they did.

Isn’t Italy the software piracy capital of Europe?

Yeah. And the game they’re seriously into pirating is PES

Switzerland would be a nice place for Games Convention!
We don’t have any of these age or gore restrictions, plus for the most part there is no language barrier for german visitors.
