Braid costs Blow $180,000

According to this Wall Street Journal piece, XBLA platformer Braid cost developer Jonathan Blow $180,000 of his own money.
The game’s already sold around 30,000 units - probably a lot more by now - at 1,200 MS Points per throw, so that wasn’t the silliest investment he ever made.

Assuming $15 per copy, and Blow getting 50% of the revenue, that’s not a huge profit… hopefully it is “a lot more by now”.

What I find interesting in the article, is that he was asked to put hints by Microsoft but he refused which I think was the right. No matter how hard this game is.

Agreed! And if you’re stuck, there’s always gamefaqs.com.

I don’t even think I’ll get it when it comes to PSN, it looks crappy. I don’t know why, I just hate the art, I actually appreciate it, but I don’t like it.
ANYWAY, now I might, just cus he seems to deserve it.

Quiiick: Temptation is there to use gamefaqs when you get stuck for 5 mins in this game… but don’t do it, as it really ruins the feeling you get from working it out.

How the hell did he spend $180,000? Unless he’s including his own time in that estimate.
