Sony questions long term effect of 360 price cut

September 5th, 2008 @ 20:36

Speaking to Gamasutra in the wake of yesterday’s 360 price cut, Julie Han of Sony’s corporate communications admitted that the drop would see an upturn in sales, but questioned its long-term impact.

“We’ll obviously see the natural lift [in sales] with the price cut, but how sustainable is that in the long term?” she asked.

“We’re really confident that consumers are making choices driven by value,” she went on, “and we know PS3 offers that value across the board, with the built-in Blu-ray player [and] the broadest and deepest software lineup in the industry, with LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Motorstorm.

“We’re quite confident our holiday sales will be good.”

  1. Heh. Sony would love to be able to drop the price of the PS3.

  2. “We’re really confident that consumers are making choices driven by value”

    Fuck you.

Drop the price, don’t give me extra content, bigger hardrives and crap.

Sorry for the language, but this is stupidity.

  3. “the broadest and deepest software lineup in the industry”

    lawlz.

  4. Drop the price, don’t give me extra content, bigger hardrives and crap.

They can’t though, that was kind of my point. The whole reason they keep releasing so many bundles is that they still can’t produce them cheap enough to be able to cut the cost of the machine. Their profit margins simply won’t allow them to take any more off the price of the machine.

  5. I know.

@Ecu I wasn’t talking about your statement, I was cross with her mention of value. I realise that they can’t drop the price, but she doesn’t seem to realise no one wants value. People want cheap.

@furianboy PS3 really does have a pretty deep library now. I am by no means saying the 360’s isn’t deeper, but it’s also missing out on some titles.

The only viable option for a true gamer is to have a 360 and a PS3.

    Ofcourse I am a fanboy, so I only have a PS3 :D

  6. i love all the old school ff games… so from that i have developed a love for the Play Station so i don’t care about all that competition stuff, PS3 all the way!

  7. Not Nintendo? I thought all the old school FF games was on that?
