PS3 web browser updated

October 5th, 2008 @ 21:06

We can’t actually check this at the moment, but we’ve just been told that the PS3 browser’s been updated. Says VG247 reader Xephon1970:

The online browser on the PlayStation 3 has a facelift. It now features direct links to Twitter, YouTube and the PS Blog amongst others, with a more dynamic interface. This was a bit unexpected as I don’t believe any announcements were made about this.

So there we are. Thanks for the tip!

  1. Has it?

I just updated and everything looks the same to me?

  2. No there hasn’t been an update to the browser, it can’t be updated independently of the firmware anyway. Xephon1970 is probably referring to the browser home page, and it must be just the US site since the EU home page is the same as usual.

I was kind of hoping this to be true but I haven’t notice any difference to the browser.

  4. Yeah, no change for my browser.

  5. I’ve sent Pat some pics of the browser. It features links to You Tube, Twitter, LittleBigPlanet and others.

Something odd happens when I click on the browser though. I’m signed in on my Euro account, and I watched the site names at the top left - from the eu.playstation.com site it’s redirected to ps3.us.playstation.com/, where the new browser interface pops up. Very odd.

Any ideas? Some kind of glitch?

  6. Yes, I noticed this yesterday. The functionality of the browser is the same, but I still think this is worth a mention as the main page is now a lot more useful.

  7. So, the browser didn’t change, just the homepage?

  8. Nothing changed in Germany, but then they still don’t have the A-Z listing either.

  9. I didn’t check this out myself, but it sounds like it’s the same as its been. Your just probably now realizing it.
(Unless it’s a region thing…I’m in the U.S. And that ‘new’ homepage has been like that for months now)
