LittleBigPlanet delayed, says “speculation” (update)
October 17th, 2008 @ 14:17

Update: We’re hearing that this may have something to so with a religious issue involving a song in the game and a passage from the Quran: hit this. Thanks, Blerk.
Update 2: VG247 has confirmed that the game is already at retail both in the UK and in other European countries.
Update 3: We’re waiting for a statement from SCEE now. It’s promised shortly. November 14 is the supposed new date.
Retailers have started mailing customers saying that LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe citing dates of up to a month after its confirmed release date of October 24.
Imagine we’re pointing at a space, just here: watch that.

Damn.
By the way, I thought it was just one retail? What other ones have done the same?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I literally just heard a rumour about a potential delay. I don’t know how much truth there is to it but it seems to boil down to an oversight of, for want of a better phrase, biblical proportions.
Let’s just say it’d make the LocoRoco / PSP “White is coming” stuff look like NOTHING by comparison.
Oh dear.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Zavvi emailed people claiming this yesterday, but I thought there’d been a “whoops, sorry, we messed up” email since then?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
^^
Yeah.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Rubbish, people have got Euro copies already on GAF.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I take it my chances of walking into a shop and buying it next week are out the window?
October 17th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Whoops, no. Wait. I’m behind the times. Seems the rumours are gathering again. Some rumour about a fuck up and recall now, I see.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
So that’s Zavvi, The Hut and ShopTo with new dates. Oh dear.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Oh dear.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Keep watching.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
To add rumor to rumor : a friend of mine has been told by a man in the distribution that It was delayed due a bug that could make those copies unplayable .
Dunno if this is true or it’s just a an excuse or a fairy tale
Let’s just hear what sony says.

October 17th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Oh dear, oh dear.
I’ll ring my local Danish shops and ask if they’ve heard anything.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Interesting rumour.
Gamereactor has given Little Big Planet the ultimate vote of confidence our highest grade, but as the release date is only days away we hear that the game will be delayed. While just an unconfirmed rumour at this point (from a source we tend to believe), it would appear that a song on the soundtrack includes lines that could be offensive to people with certain religious beliefs.
The same source claims the game will be delayed by three weeks worldwide, our Nordic distributor has confirmed the delay although they did not wish to elaborate on the reasons behind it. If this is true it is going to be a costly affair for Sony who have been banking on Little Big Planet to kick off their holiday sales with plenty of advertising to back the release.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Delayed for a song ? Seems weird
October 17th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hmmm delayed and sony in one sentence? Cant be true…..lol
October 17th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Guess the religion
October 17th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
/pre-orders Fable 2
I’m guessing Fable 2 will get a mini boost in initial sales from multi-platform owners.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Gah! Religion, the curse of the 21st century.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
“Keep watching”
I’m guessing then you know there’s something in this? Bastards, next Friday was my day off :/
October 17th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Zoinks!
October 17th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Danish retail has the physical media in store waiting to be sold on Wednesday.
October 17th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Should be “Religion, the curse of all centurys”
October 17th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
If Gamereactor is right. I expect the delay is not to avoid offending, but to avoid giving the game a higher age rating.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
It’s not that kind of offensive, Harry. Check the “Zoinks!” link.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
re: Blerks link: I hope they just do what the poster suggested and release an online patch.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
MVP’s on the SCEE website already have their copy so it can’t be delayed =S
October 17th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Gah! Religion, the curse of the 21st century.
QFT. This is ridiculous .
October 17th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
If that really is it, then I imagine they’ll issue a recall. You can’t guarantee everyone will get the patch.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Utterly ludicrous.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Made two updates.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
So we’re basically talking about a full recall then? Wow… it’s insane what you have to look for these days.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Who said that there’s going to be a recall?
October 17th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
What a disaster. Poor old Media Molecule.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I just got an e-mail from Game claiming the date has changed to October 08.
It was Oct 24 08, now just Oct 08.
It did strike me that the beta was quite late and the beta level competition voting was also quite late as well.
But there’s a lot of people claiming they already have a copy, and are posting pics on the net.
Who is telling the truth?
October 17th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
The game’s at retail, Eregol. Loads of people are playing it already.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Those people will also be recalled and ‘altered’.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
stop bitching at everything muslims. when you guys go somewhere you make your own rules and dont give a rats a*s about the culture where you establish yourselves…so why the hell should we push back a game cuz of you suckers?
October 17th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
I doubt very much that there’s any truth to the idea that they’re recalling the game because of this.
We have someone complaining about a song in the game, then the game gets delayed and people start throwing wobblies all over the place.
Where are the facts that say that the game is being recalled because of this?
October 17th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Oh dear, that PlayStation forum adds an air of inevitability to proceedings…this will wind up arriving right next to Gears 2 won’t it >:(
October 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
@ airdom
Shut up you muppet.
I’m a Muslim, and I know that you wouldn’t say that to my face, so you should just keep your offensive little mouth closed until you know the facts.
Prat.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Here’s a exclusive for you before I put it on my site, dont say I am not good to you Pat
UPDATE 3: It actually may not just be down to a religious song and all that, it actually may fall down to an internal problem in SCEE considering the moderating tools for LBP.
It’s a bug in them or something. It’s a small one but it could end up being a big problem.
Although I was told this weeks ago so it may have developed into a big problem now.
Oh and change the pic from the NXE XD
October 17th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Hard to tell… you can’t rely on a patch to take out objectionable content because not everyone has the internet. It needs to be taken out on the disc.
That’s assuming this is exactly what’s going on.
(edit - which it appears from the post above, it is not)
October 17th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
If it was a bug in code, it’d be dead easy to patch, surely? They wouldn’t have to delay - you’d only need the moderation tools to work if the people were online, which means you could force a patch on them.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
True but thats what I heard.
I even had trouble remember the exact quotes of it, just remembered the context of it.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
CTRL+f5, Johnny.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Well, I guess we’ll see. Or we won’t, because they probably won’t tell us exactly why it’s being delayed. If it is.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
@patlike
If that’s the case, why haven’t I been e-mailed to say my product has been shipped?
Instead I’ve got a mail saying the release date has changed.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Because it’s been delayed
October 17th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
What is more important: religion or videogames
Is there even a difference?
Deep.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Sorry for the riddles. Keep watching.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
“Hello from zavvi,
We are emailing because you recently placed an order for LittleBigPlanet. You may have received an email informing you that the release date had changed to 4th November, unfortunately this was sent in error following an incorrect date feed.
We can confirm that LittleBigPlanet is still scheduled for release on 24th October. We would like to offer our apologies for any confusion or frustration caused.”
October 17th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Oh dear, so it looks like the games’ not being delayed after all…
Well well… now there’s a suprise.
Flippin’ internet rumour-mongering lunatics.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Check the third update.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
/o\
October 17th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
That Zavvi e-mail Johnny Cullen quoted was from much earlier.
I have heard from someone well connected what the craic is. I’d keep watching as Pat says…
And as much as there’s no such thing as bad publicity, Sony should be all over this right now regardless.
EDIT: As if by magic!
October 17th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
November 14th would put it up against Call of Duty: World At War, Mirror’s Edge, Banjo Kazooie and Sonic Unleashed.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Someone go get the popcorn, this is gonna be good viewing
shame if it does get delayed though.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I already know what we gonna see on CNN the next days - Burning Sackboyz
October 17th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
That thread blerk linked to is locked strange very strange.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Mm should just patch the lyrics. Fuck those without interweb!
I want LBP … now !!!

October 17th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Well… this is all more interesting than I expected for a Friday afternoon.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Still waiting.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
So the question is; Will the moderation tools stand up to the predictable backlash?
October 17th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
@ G1GAHURTZ
and why wouldnt i say it to youf face? im saying that because its pretty much a fact that muslims that immigrate pretty much anywhere (canada, usa, europe and whatnot) just go on and keep doing their thing. everyone has to bend their rules for that religion. and im not talking about only muslims…it can be assidic jews or anything like that also.
thats all im saying
October 17th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Keep the religious shit off these gaming boards ffs. We don’t even know for sure that’s what’s going on yet.
Oh… and the rumours are going nuts now. I just heard that Sony has started to recall the review copies too.

October 17th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
internet is exploding about this X)
@deftangel
Hopefully not
October 17th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I consider myself fairly open minded. Some of my best friends own Xboxes for example.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
So much for NXE being the biggest internet event ever.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Well you know what they say no publicity is bad publicity.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
… any official reaction from Sony or Mm by now?
October 17th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
alright screw this thread lol
October 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
We’re all waiting for the official statement, Quiiick. Should be soon, hopefully.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
lol @ Tonka
October 17th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
“and why wouldnt i say it to youf face?”
Figure it out.
“and im not talking about only muslims…”
Oh, that’s strange, because it read like that’s exactly what you were ONLY talking about.
“it can be assidic jews or anything like that also.”
Oh, well that makes it perfectly fine, doesn’t it??
Putting a whole group of people together like that is at best, stupid, and leads to the worst kind of ignorance and more.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
The official statement will be ‘ner ner neerrrrrr’ followed by what sounds suspiciously like a raspberry
October 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
come on sony !!
October 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
XD at Red Panda.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Poor Rare. If LBP launches on the 14th BK:N&B is going to get no attention at all.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
if only i actually were ignorant.
im gonna follow what Psychotext said now. fuck this.
religion ftw!
October 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Good grief!
October 17th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Hurry up, Sony! I’m going home in a minute.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Yes, my interest for this rumour is decreasing by the minute.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
A delay is hardly going to kill anyone if true.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Still waiting, I’m afraid. As soon as I get it I’ll post, obviously.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
It won’t kill anyone, but it will be stupendously embarrassing for Sony. And probably really fucking expensive, too.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I’m sure they will make it up pretty much everyone I know is drooling over it. Half of which are planning on buy a PS3 just to play it.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Blerk: +1
It’ll make the national headlines, too. Real fucking blunder if its the religion thing.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
@ David
do you really this game can really push hardware sales? i think MGS4 didnt even push ps3 sales as much as they expected, so i dont see how lbp can do the same?
i unerdstand that this pretty much an enldess game with all the creation that is to be had in this. im not bashing lbp or anything, it looks pretty damn cool indeed (reviews seem to prove it also).
how many people do you know are gonna dish out the cash for a ps3 just go get lbp?
how can they make up for it? theyre already offering a dozen types of sackboys all over the world lol
October 17th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
@airdom I bought my PS3 for this
well not just this obviously, i’d been thinking of getting one for a while but LBP kinda made my mind up that it was time.
first generation i’ve owned all the consoles. scary :-S
October 17th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
I think a few people will buy a PS3 for it. It’s caught a lot of interest from those that have seen it.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
@Airdom: I think this could be a system shifter but until it starts hitting the shelf’s and attach rates come in no one will know how successful it is as a system shifter.
October 17th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
im still looking forward to it either way
if i have to wait a bit longer, well it gives me time to complete fable II fallout 3 and Gears 2
October 17th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
@ RedPanda
scary yes, but your probably very profitable for Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo hehe
@ David
Agreed. we shall wait and see! i don’t have a ps3 (only a 360) but i still think that this game looks awesome!
